A quick run down on how to replace, repair, and or get to your R56 Mini Cooper S Front main seal.
I will post a written step by step set of instruction on the site regarding how to use the special tool, and drive in a new seal. This repair was for a dealer friend of mine. This mini had been leaking since leaving the auction, and it was time to fix it.
*Excuse my coughing and sniffling as seeing I had to work on the clients car in their drive way. The wind and pollen sucks here in Cali now; allergy season.
Remove the inner liner of the wheel well after jacking the vehicle up
Remove the AC line bracket support. This will give you more room to remove the Crank Pulley
Loosen the upper Radiator Bracket, and detach the hood latch housing
Remove the Passenger Side Headlight Assembly
Loosen the charge hose from the clamp, and remove the electrical connector. Now Slide the charge hose over to the opposite side of the oil dipstick and out of the way for now.
Loosen the Belt Tensioner by applying a 30mm wrench to side of the tensioner head, and pull it towards the front bumper then lock it.
Now remove the drive belt, and remove the crank pulley
Now check the seal to see if it is either rolled or if it needs to be completely replaced.
If the seal is rolled you can simply use a hook tool to push the rolled section back until the front lip of the seal is showing and flush with the rest of the seal.
If the seal is damaged you will have to replace it, and we will have these instructions posted on our site for you.
